THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ALABAMA ARTISTS!

CARE Packages supports artists through direct investment in their work.

Thanks to a generous donor, the Alabama Visual Arts Network commissioned twelve acclaimed Alabama artists to create editions of ten artworks. Selected by program creator Paul Barrett, the artists come from diverse backgrounds and work in a variety of media in all corners of our state. Now that those commissions are completed, ALVAN is delighted to offer these works of art in the last of ten exclusive sets. Each set included one work by each of the following artists:

  • Butch Anthony, Seale, unique mixed-media assemblage with hand-painted cabinet card in a vintage cigar-box frame

  • Michael Banks, Guntersville, a unique mixed-media painting

  • Cal Breed, Fort Payne, one of a series of fluted, hand-blown glass carafes

  • Claudia Pettway Charley, Birmingham/Boykin, one of a series of unique small quilts inspired by her upbringing in Gee's Bend

  • Karen Graffeo, Birmingham/Montevallo, one of a series of mixed-media digital prints titled, Hearts in Repair

  • Stacey Holloway, Birmingham, one of series of wall-hanging porcelain and mixed-media works

  • Leanna Leithauser-Lesley, Birmingham, one of a series of unique needlepoint portraits of jazz horn players framed in vintage vinyl albums

  • Charlie Lucas, Prattville/Selma, one of a series of found-metal sculptures titled, Stretching the Mind

  • Guadalupe Robinson, Huntsville, a handmade ceramic vessel

  • Mary Ann Sampson, Ashville/Ragland, one of a series of handmade artist books

  • Jerry Siegel, Atlanta/Selma, a limited-edition archival inkjet photograph titled, patchwork barn, Dallas County, AL 2020

  • Charles Smith, Mobile, one of a series of handmade ceramic pots

The entire set cost only $1,800.00.

All participating artists have been paid for their CARE Packages artwork. Half of their commission was paid immediately to help cover the cost of materials, and the full balance was paid when the artwork was completed. Your investment in the work of these Alabama artists supports the mission of the Alabama Visual Arts Network: Advancing visual art for the mutual improvement, cultural benefit and social enlightenment of artists and the public.

Six participating CARE Packages artists are featured in the book Alabama Creates: 200 Years of Art and Artists, published by University of Alabama Press. Three participating artists are 2021 Alabama State Council on the Arts Visual Arts Fellows. Collectively, the artists have hundreds of gallery and museum exhibitions to their credit, making this an extraordinary opportunity to collect affordable examples of their work.
